History
of H Blyth & Son
| The Blyths first
started trading in 1947. Sidney Blyth converted pigsties at our existing
premises into a workshop.

Primary work in
those days was hand forging "Norfolk Pattern self sharpening hoe blades" for
sugar beet weed control, a product which has recently ceased due to the
retirement of Hedworth Blyth at 80+ years old. The emergence of chemical weed controls had seen a decline in demand for the
hoe blade. |
|
During the
1950's, making and repairing zig zag harrows was a major aspect of work.

The
1960's and 70's saw the introduction of rear mounted tractor implements. These
were manufactured at our Honingham premises. |

Royal Norfolk Show meeting Princess Anne |
1974 also
saw the Blyths exhibiting
at the Royal Norfolk Show, a practice which continued until 2000. |
|
Whilst
concentrating mainly on the agricultural aspect during this time, another niche
developed in the building industry for gates, railings, balconies etc. We
diversified and followed demand.... which brings us today, still deeply involved
in agriculture, the building trade and the home. |
 |
 |
A major
project completed in 2006 for a Norwich apartment development saw us
busy for several months supplying, and fitting "Juliet" balconies,
staircase hand rails, railings and numerous structural members and
fabrications. |
Our name and
products are widespread in farming, industry, and the building trade, throughout
Norfolk and its boundaries.
